JW Anderson, LFW- 17th Sept, ‘12
'The Treatment Room'- aka, JW Anderson's theme for his SS'13 catwalk show, was clearly printed on the back of our invitations to the bow out show of the women's edition of LFW, 2012. Standing in the queue outside of the beautifully domed Topshop Space, I was expecting clincial, structured fashion to dominate Anderson's catwalk. It was present yes- the jackets were empowering, the shoulders harsh, but the junxtaposition between the rough was clear with the smooth, as ruffles laced dresses and pastels tamed the calm before the storm.
JW Anderson’s men’s catwalk pushed more boundaries; (last season we saw men in pink lace and satin!) but within his women’s department the collection was accessible, and wearable. The suit shown below, my personal favourite from his collection last night, wouldn’t feel out of place strutting down Knightsbridge High St, and the suit jacket’s would sit perfectly within a smart fashionista’s bustling designer wardrobe.
Each look was accessorized carefully- providing minimal distraction from the clothes on show. Chokers and bracelets were present, as were the simple gelled pixie crop and the side partnered ponytail, which added an andrognous touch to the proceedings. The space encapsulated what the show was about- the ‘Treatment’, and the pastel (and orange) tones bounced off to walls in delight, making the collection stand up, and tall.
After the success of his Topshop launch on Friday, I think it’s time for JW to take a bow. This is his time, and if you hadn’t heard of the young Irishman before now, then keep your eye out- you’re going to be seeing a lot more of the little anchor from now on…

I’d like to thank Rachel and Jo from iris PR for providing me with two tickets to last night’s show, it was fantastic! iris work with BRITA Fill&Go, a primary sponsor of the event- who are keeping fashion folk hydrated as they rush around between shows at fashion week. Cheers, BRITA!
